| L. Brooks Patterson Oakland County Executive |
I don't like L. Brooks Patterson. That may seem mean and insensitive, but he already knows this. It's my wish that her is replaced by some Bill Clinton type of politician and retire to Arizona or Florida where the ultra-racist of America go. That isn't Colorado, Wyoming or Utah, there are virtually no Black people there. I was thinking he would never go their, because then he would lack purpose, since he lives to keep us down, unemployed and "locked-up". I learned that when an organization like Oakland County is immersed in racial inequality they hire a Black person to be their hiring manager. This is what Oakland County did in the late 80's when they made Frank Russell their Personell Executive. I think that was to prove that they weren't racist, and the reason that there were no Blacks working there, is due to the idea that we aren't intelligent enough to pass their standardized tests.
Remember: This is the man, who as Oakland County Prosecutor, began the Child Support Initiative that has put hundreds of thousands of African American men in the jail!
When the truth is that Oakland County is no different than a crooked city like Pontiac use to be. Those hired in have an inside source that aids their employment. There are groups like "Friends & Family" and the strongest of the group "The Brotherhood of the Thieves". The "Friends & Family" group is hardest to pinpoint, because they have different jobs that spread across the County's jurisdiction. It covers a wide range of people who have different agendas, job titles and positions. Finding out who is related to whom would take a lot of time consuming work and filtering through a whole lot of the various departments with in the organization. I know this portion exists, simply because it is the staple in all companies of this nature. Now the "Brotherhood" is something different and they usually like the same powerful position of Deputy, but their friend and family can also be found elsewhere. They cheat on the tests, have friends in high places who they steal for. They quickly leave the jail (turn key) position where their old co-workers might have the chance to recognize them and therefore, "blow their cover". In the shceme of things they may appear to be so effective at their job that they move up quickly, because they are the biggest assholes of the group. In reality, they are assholes, because they know that as long as they don't cause great bodily harm to someone they have the ultimate job security. The "Brotherhood" is rotten, they participate in all the things they are suppose to not be involved in and that includes stealing, as well as drugs and illegal firearms. I don't have to bother mentioning the sexual component, be it heterosexual or homosexual.
Not to mention their little part-time lovers who need employment. Oakland County operates, just like Pontiac as far as I can see. Only difference is Brooks and his "Anti-Black" agenda. We aren't included in the "Friends & Family" Plan or the "Brotherhood of the Thieves" Plan. So when they meet us in the UP while stealing, we don't get a permanent position that will further our families and careers, but are left to the mundane trials of "ghetto" living. I am in complete amazement at the amount of you White men who are employed there as Deputies, who have no education, but the opportunity to feed their families well, live comfortably and send their children to college. I met many of retirement age who had no education and just "lucked" up on a position with the County. Been working there some 30 years, raised a family, sent their children to school and so forth. The Blacks had the plant, but now the plants are closed and we want a share of an entity not so harshly effected by economic down turns. Being one of the riches counties in the world, during the time of Russell's tenure as Personell Exec. Brooks may have felt the pressure to hire many of the Black young men and women who were now educated by their parents GM jobs. Although most of the people who came from the South were barely educated, once they had children, they educated many of them. Those children came to full-maturity in the late 80's and early 90's. That influx made Patterson scramble for a solution to a possible non-racist looking solution to not hiring them. Make one of them the boss, then they can't holler racism.
That is the same thing Waterford did when they hired a young light-skinned Black man as their City Attorney. He was in charge of handling all the traffic and misdemeanor cases that came through their court system. In order for the numerous Blacks who came through their system, when they didn't have as many Blacks in there city, feel comfortable. When in reality these men have no control over who gets what, and they definitely had no control of the officers who wrote the numerous tickets to the Blacks who would travel through their city. Just like the portion of the Blacks on the Sheriffs Department, the number of Blacks receiving citations in Waterford, versus the number of Blacks who lived in Waterford was at a disproportionate rate. This way it appears that they are trying to be fair, when the fair thing would be not to target the Black people who are simply passing through your city in the first place. The space where Pontiac meets Waterford at Elizabeth Lake Road and Telegraph is the best place for getting a ticket, because that's where the Black folk are. I would bet that's where the majority of their tickets are written and not in the heart of that city.
So, they take pages from one another's books of Racism. I think they are learning from the biggest and best racist in Oakland County, L. Brooks Patterson. Who is probably getting cues from some of the richest racist in the County. He is responsible for keeping every Black person in the poverty strickened state they are in. If we can afford to pay taxes in Pontiac, keep up our homes and educated our children this city may prosper. In the ideology of the Republic, most of the plans for these men's future are passed down from word of mouth. Nothing is on paper, but they tell it to their children who inherit the purpose for the people involved. One thing that I know that is top on their agenda is taking this city back. GM was the reason we could afford to live here, but now what do we have? Lakeside Homes, built on a lake is now gone. We no longer have a huge presence any place in our city. You may say that we are everywhere, but there are more vacant home around here that not. Rent control is not on the books and most people in Pontiac rent. What will keep them here if the rents go to high? In Detroit, the rents are cheaper and the hand-out richer and spread out so you can have more.
When the jobs leave the people leave. Even the new movie studio on South Boulevard is hiring Whites from neighboring suburbs and not Pontiac citizens. They take care of their own first, and we get the seconds. I have to say that we did a lot of it to ourselves, by throwing them out of the city government and off the school board. Then we commenced to destroying both with greed and corruption. L. Brooks Patterson has every reason not to send business here, because we don't do good business. We fail to elect and construct sound leadership decisions and always struggle to make things right. What are we going to do when a man stands on television and says, "Well, what do they want from me? They have the water and sewers...What do they want from me?" This was a man fed-up with his septic tank, disgruntled at buying pellets for his water softner. What he was really say is this, "They got all the riches they need, they got stuff I don't have and I'm White and better than them! If they can't find a way to work with all of the things that they have that I don't have, the hell with them!" At that point, I knew he wanted our land, or lake and our sewer system.
Move all the Niggers out and let me live like that. I'm tired of them whining and not knowing what to do with their land. I'm going to take it and I might not live to see it, but I want that back. I can see a bunch of rich White men back when they began to build the "Projects" saying, "That plant won't last forever, and when it ends, we'll take that lake back. They won't have it forever." That was the solution then, but it wasn't set in stone that we would always have this land. They also under-estimated the ability of Blacks to strive and keep control of their finances, send their children to college and survive difficult times. That being the most presumptive, simply because we had survived slavery. Brooks was there, he was young, but he was listening. He was the one they employed to stop the integration of the schools and in the fashion of John Adams, he went on to further the cause of his "fight".
Patterson has not changed his mind, and was probably one of the grand leaders for the push for the Whites in Oakland County to pull out of Pontiac. They build this facade that they are leaving, because they want their children to have a better education and get away from the drugs in our community. When the truth is that their children are coming here to buy the drugs. Although they maybe getting a better education and better chances at furthering their education, they are still subject to all the same situation as African-American children. And many of them have the occasion to fall into the same types of activities as we do. Likewise, their parents are also subject to be drug addicted, abusers and molesters. Again, you just hide it away in the their houses in the woods. Oakland County is full of all of these types of people, too. It is just their jobs to deny that it exist.
Brooks is surely angry with us possessing this land, and moreover don't think that we should. His being better than us is missing one element, a running sewer. The plan is to move us out and finally build on that land where Lakeside Homes use to be. The land they moved Blacks out of and tried to make B.E. the scapegoat to our people for them not doing what they promised. They want million dollar homes on that land. They want docks and a country club, similar to the one in Keego Harbor off of Orchard Lake, where we aren't allowed. To right it's small discreet Pontiac homes, to left around the bend their are three story homes, with walk-out basements that lead to the beach, boat and trails, with a life like a Norman Rockwell painting. I went there one morning with my neighbor and wasn't welcome, and my neighbor wasn't welcome back. Not with me anyway. This is where we live, and thanks to men like L. Brooks Patterson, we live on the border of a hostile state. We need to just walk around the block or cross the street and we are subject to the worst racism, prejudice and schemes. In some published accounts, 1200 North Telegraph is in Waterford. It may not be true, but it might be wishful thinking. That's why we must be mindful of those brooks, that flow into stream, that leak into rivers and gush into the lakes that lead to an ocean of tides. Of tided of racial inequality and prejudice that keeps us down, in the court system and out of those jobs...We must to keep our eyes on those Brooks!
