I have always voted. When I was 17 there was an election that year that I was intrinsically involved with. I turned 18 that fall, but didn't vote for the first time. I regret that so badly, but I was in Ohio going to school, and had no idea how to vote absentee. Neither did I have the zeal to learn. When I came home, however, I made every effort to always vote. Even if my candidate didn't have a chance at winning. This may seem cliche, but I do appreciate all the hard work and struggling that those in our history have done to make this possible. They were beaten, murdered and dogs let loose on them. We live the way we do today, because the revolution of other African-Americans in the US. All revolutions are bloody and violent, and before a great renaissance there is usually war and destruction. We live today out of the blood of so many men and women and not just Black, but White, too. Not only in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960's, but in each World War, Civil War or Revolutionary War. America is built on people who take a stand and fight and die for what is right. And so I vote.
I vote so that all I do is not in vain, and everything that I possess is mine when the day ends. I have learned a bit about our Constitution, but I have a great love for it. It enables us to be able to change with the times. It makes room for people to flourish without conflicts resulting in blood shed (unless both parties agree). It gives balance and opportunity for others to come into the fold and prosper, with ease. With all of that comes prejudice, corruption and capitalism....And don't forget the "red tape" of a bureaucratic government. Ironically, our Constitution leaves room for adjustments for those things, too. Like the Bible (but not quite), or Constitution covers everything. I haven't studied it as deep as I will the next two years, but I will be moved to do just that. Learn all of those rights afforded me by the Constitution.
When you learn something so beneficial, you will grow to love it even more. Learning History has given me great insight into this country and believe it or not has made me love it more. The people in it is one thing, but the idea that we can redo what has been done is great. I love the idea of re-creation, even through the most difficult times. Controlling is key in managing and it is wise to have a Controller in any organization. Reassessing the damage and efficiency of an organization is always detrimental to its success or failure. We live in one of the greatest countries in the world. I believe that Canada is better, but I'm sure I'll hear about this later, today. To live here is a privilege, even if by being African-Americans we feel slighted or racial unequal...This is better than most places in the world. Even when we are slighted or even feel slighted we have all those inalienable rights afforded to us by the Constitution to express ourselves or sue. In many counties a blog like mine would get you thrown in prison, killed or ostracized . I have experienced none of that, probably, because everything you read is either the truth or my opinion. In the Constitution, my opinions if not to defame or slander are very valid, and the truth goes without saying (no pun intended).
To all of my Black, African-Americans or Niggahs who disagree, go live in Mexico, Russia or the majority of Asia. Governments that stifle their people, do not allow gatherings of three or more people in the square, throw you into camps and regulate child bearing. You would run back to America and send George Bush a "Thank you" card! We take for granted the freedoms of this country, mostly, because like spoiled children we don't know much more than this. Ignorance gives us the ability to think we are entitled and the Constitution backs that idea. But when you see the Muslim nations, and their dealings with jihad and security "check points" you should began to realize our lives are the ruling class. The word civilization has many components and being civilized to one another should be one of them!
So get out and vote to help celebrate your inclusion into one of the greatest civilizations that has ever existed.
