Sue Ann Douglas Oakland County Commissioner |
I went to a meeting at Oakland County the other day. There was a meeting to determine if the contract proposed by Oakland County Sheriff's Department was a standard contract or not. Many of the people from Pontiac set to lose their jobs, or effected by the contract came out to support Mattie Hatchett and Val Gross. I went to see what was going on. I'm truly torn between the two, because there is an emotional side and a business side. I have a degree in Management, but I am a lifetime citizen of Pontiac. Plus, and I didn't say that, but I would directly benefit from Pontiac going over to OCSD, because Steve would get a nice little raise. We need that money to begin our lives, get married, start our family and plan for our future. Still I love my city so much and I can't stand the idea of being policed by people who are openly racist and prejudice against Blacks in Michigan. I wrote about Michael Bouchard and L. Brooks Patterson and the other day I met a few more. Sue Ann Douglas is the worst thing that ever happened to Pontiac, since L. Brooks Patterson.
Ms. Douglas is very passionate about her son being mugged in Pontiac 20 years ago. People in Rochester are passionate about not liking Black people. I learned that when I entered a Bridal Shop in their downtown. The woman refused to help me. When I asked her did she know of any other shops in the area. She replied, "I wouldn't know I drive in from Lake Orion everyday." I guess they don't like Blacks there either. She feels that the Pontiac Police did very little for her son. Although rumor has it that her son was in Pontiac to buy drugs. Sadly, this happened 20 years ago, in the midst of Pontiac drug infiltration. Waterford and other suburbs have their own local drug dealer working their streets and a trip to Pontiac isn't necessary. The only reason these days a White person from the suburbs would need to come to Pontiac, is for sex or to visit their friends who live here. So, this woman has a big problem with Pontiac Police, but without good cause. Pontiac Police felt about her son the way they feel about all criminals....Nothing at all. The last I heard, buying illegal drugs is a crime. They wouldn't care about him in that case, because the police don't have issue to care too much about drug addicts. They do have an issue with crime and her son was in our town buying drugs and therefore a criminal. The police are only cordial and cooperative with criminals after they know they have a conviction or a snitch!
Until then, if they don't have a case or an informant, you are left to go on your way. Since his family had some clout in the County he wasn't charged with anything. Pontiac isn't going to pay his complaint much mind. They said, "That's what he gets for coming here to buy drugs." But his mother exclaimed in the meeting, "My son won't drive through Pontiac." Good, because we have enough drug addicts in this city. He can take his ass somewhere else and buy his drugs. Mattie Hatchett was brilliant in her approach, because this Douglas woman tried to keep a cap on her mouth. After listening to Hatchett give a long passionate speech about her city and defy the Commissioners to sign that contract. You gave poignant points about the contract and the city's rejection of the OCSD coming to Pontiac to patrol our streets, but I know now that she had a hidden agenda. I know she will deny this, but the truth is she wanted us to see the real Sue Ann Douglas in action. The big mouth woman with a chip on her shoulder about the city of Pontiac, because her son is a drug addict. I guess she's just angry period. Most people who are as big as Ms. Douglas are usually mean and upset with the world, because they are so fat. They use subjects like parents and children as a reason, because society as a whole thinks those are acceptable reasons to be angry about. It's not acceptable in society to just be angry because your large. It seems that she and her son have an issue with blaming people for things that aren't their fault. The 20 something suburban's people partying it up at Tonic and Tiki Bob's every Thursday through Sunday would surely disagree with both of them!
I see that she is the person who is controlling all of the meetings. White men don't usually go against other White women, and surely no one as vocal and aggressive as this woman. Not because she's White, but because they don't need the trouble and don't want to be at the other end of her wrath. I would love to say Black men are the same way, but pretty much they stand their own, because unlike White men they don't have bigger fish to fry. Their dessention with a loud mouth woman like Ms. Douglas could be the height of his career. If he wins, he might be able to run for higher office. Not because Black men aren't capable, but it's the limit that society and racist people like those at Oakland County put on them! Since the Whites on this Commission out number the Blacks, we're in big trouble in Pontiac.
Michael Gingell was the one person I think who was being honest. He wasn't going to pass the contractor, because his city doesn't have their own police department. We all know about those Whites who live in Lake Orion, Orion Township and others. They aren't anything but Pontiac rejects, who left this area in an attempt to seem better than the African-Americans living here. One of those who want to appear different than us, but in reality are no different. They have picnics, baseball games and harvest festivals and think to themselves. "See we are better than the Blacks. They don't know how to appreciate companionship, friendship, home and family. We do and we need to get away from them, because we aren't like them, we are better." Yeah right, your John Edward haircut don't fool me, you a glimmering example of what I'm talking about in this blog. He and his nose had a real hard time sitting in his seat for so long. They needed to be taken care of and all these Black people talking about something he didn't even have, was getting tired. How do we expect him to vote to keep our police department when he doesn't have one, and he's White! He needed to go take care of his nose and all those Black folk needed to go back to the ghetto, and do their crack. His drugs don't count, because it's pure and not chemically altered! (joke)
So now what do we do? There really isn't anything for us to say, the fat lady has sung and it's over. All we can do is go up the road a little further and see what happens. I have heard that I am racist, but the person writing on that doesn't know what racism is. So let me explain. Racism is the exertion of power my the ruling race over the lesser race. Since I have no power over anyone as a Black woman I could never be a racist; at least not in this century. There is always hope for the future, because I believe I'm pretty fair. I take people as they come and not by the color of their skin. I would do the same on a job application. I would surely do my best to create a government that reflects the make-up of the society that it services. Something that Oakland County has failed to do for many, many, many years.
There were two White Pontiac Police workers there who were all for the merge. One guy who doesn't live in Pontiac, but lived elsewhere and took our tax dollars to a neighboring municipality. He says that Pontiac is in chaos and the police can't handle it. Well, it was doing just fine, until you lost your job. Now it's all going to hell. Now, the Sheriff's have the chance to put "those people" in their place. Like Steve I know he has endured what sums up to reverse racism. As long as he stayed in his place he had a job and was left alone by the crooked fraction of the PPD. Up until the day after Thanksgiving when he was laid off, it was enough for him. Now that he was laid off, and doesn't have a job, OCSD is the greatest thing sine slice bread. Now with the promise of a part-time job and the chance at a full-time position. Full-time being more of a possibility, because now other White people will determine his fate. No longer will he be subject to the "Blackness" in the PPD. Since he knows that Whites, especially the ones in Oakland County favor other Whites for jobs, promotions and honors he will be in a better place. I think that was a pretty strategic move by the Emergency Financial Manager. Having a White man against his take over was hurting his chances of taking over. Make a man destitute and unable to take care of his children is a excellent way to get him on your side. Bravo!
Now that the fat lady has song about her drug addicted son, we are left with OCSD in our city. Now all we can do is stump our feet and make noise like the powerless children that we are. That's why when she raised her voice and reminded Mattie Hatchett that she supported Pontiac, but it was a personal issue about her son; I walked out of the meeting. No matter what we said this woman had a personal vendetta that could only be quenched with the dismantling of the PPD. Even though the officers involved in her son's case have either retired or died. Twenty years is a very long time in cop years. They can retire around that time as civil servants. Her distaste for our city is laughable, seeing that her son was or is a drug addict. Going back to what I always say that beneath the facade they are pretty much like us and every other race in America. We all have our issues. The question is and always will be, "When the chips are down will you do what's right, fair, decent and bi-partisan for your neighbor?" If you come to the table with your mind made up, there is no room for debate, which is so sad.
In the future, I hope Ms. Douglas will lose weight and hopefully become happy. That will go a long way for the citizens of Pontiac, if not we are stuck with her loathing and tirades in Commissioner's meetings. She told Hatchett pointing her finger at her in a nutshell, "I've always been nice to you people, but the Pontiac Police I just can't stand." Well, thank you Ms. Douglas for your honesty, and thank you Mattie Hatchett for pulling it out of her so we could see. I knew something was going on with her when she pretty much told the People of Pontiac that they were ignorant and that their comments were irrelevant to the job she had to do. I think I made it clear when I told her, "It's not ignorance...They don't want any contract standard or not."
I think people have me twisted and assume because I love a White man that I love all White people. They think that I have adopted an opinion that some how "White is right." Well, you need to speak with Steven, because I tell him that he is wrong everyday! We fight and argue and I have my voice in this thing, just like he does. When I went to prison for him, I don't think either of us had any control. But my love for him is no reflection on how I feel about anyone in general. I love him, because he is a good man, and not because he is a White man. So, the comments I made at the Board of Commissioners still stands. Oakland County is racist, and Steven is not. He's a bit of an asshole a lot of the times, but he doesn't see color, but like me he sees people for what they show him about their character. I'm never going to negate facts and see the world from the aspect of color. I noticed that when I began to speak, Douglas nodded and agreed, but as I went on with my talk her face went dry! That's because she feels that "White is right." Sadly, I do not agree.
